CHRIS WEIDMAN’S DOUBLE KNEE SURGERY DEEMED SUCCESSFUL
One day after surgery on both of his knees, UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman is already walking on his own power and undergoing rehabilitation that will hopefully have him ready to compete on the UFC’s Fourth of July weekend event.
Weidman had a meniscus tear repaired in one knee, and in the other, had a scope.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Answorth Allen, the same doctor who repaired his injured shoulder in 2012. The meniscus injury had plagued Weidman for years, but required the procedure after locking up twice in the span of a week.
On Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight, Ariel Helwani reported that both procedures were successful, putting that optimistic timeline in play.
The 29-year-old Weidman (11-0) was originally set to compete at UFC 173 in May, but the date was pushed back to accommodate his recovery.
He is still slated to face Lyoto Machida, but the bout is now set for UFC 173 on July 5 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
